Entering A Business

"Begin now doing what you want to do. We are not living in eternity.
We have only this moment, sparkling like a star in our hand~
And melting like a snowflake. Let us use it before it is too late."
Marie Beynon Ray

Entering business ownership can be the next crowning event of your career and is to be enjoyed. Many consider the opportunity to purchase an established, profitable business to be the best option available. Here's why:

Current owner(s) have already demonstrated the need for existing    products and/or services.

The start-up learning curve has passed.

Loyal customers and clients are evidence of the demand and
quality of what is provided for the market.

Employees and providers are in place with adequate planning and    production.

Cash flow is established to meet credit needs as well as yield    rewarding profits.

The business is often ready for the next stage of growth, and

Current owner(s) are generally willing to provide guidance into an    exciting period of expansion.

New ideas and enthusiasm, possibly along with an infusion of new capital, can be just what is needed to meet the challenges of the future.

How Can American Business Connections Help?

As Primary Business Consultants, American Business Connections will guide you in the step by step process of due diligence, through the negotiation stage and right up to the consummation where you will authorize the final documents and pick up the keys to your exciting future!

An inventory of quality businesses is available now to match your personal skills, strengths and interests as well as meet your economical and geographical requirements.

What To Do When I Have Found a Business I Like?

As soon as you have identified an existing business in which you have some interest, you will need to sign a non-disclosure document (confidentiality agreement) to protect the identity and trade secrets of the exiting owner. Information can be shared with you in a variety of ways, but normally it will be provided in three basic forms. First you will be given a "preliminary" profile on the business providing basic information. These first communications can be accomplished by telephone, fax and E-mail saving you valuable time.

If the preliminary information meets your initial criteria, you will then be given a "basic" profile, which provides more detailed information. This is normally accomplished in a face-to-face meeting with an American Business Connections consultant; however, fax, E-mail, telephone and US postal service may be appropriate where distance is a factor. In order for American Business Connections to confirm your credible interest to the current owner of the business, you will be asked to provide "basic" information on yourself. This will include a current or recent financial history, resume and criteria pertinent to you in seeking a business.

What's Next If I Have Continued Interest?

Assuming you have continued interest in the business you should ask to see the "master profile" of the business detailing all relevant information. With permission of the owner, you will be allowed to make copies of any information shown to you. American Business Connections will have this profile in our office. Based upon this information and your continued interest, you will want to make a personal visit to the business and be involved in a period of due-diligence to verify the credibility of what has been provided to you. American Business Connections will guide you through this process as well as arrange your on site visit.

Making The Offer

Keeping in mind that other interested parties are usually considering good opportunities, you will want to make an offer to purchase. American Business Connections will have samples of various forms for your use and coordinate communications for you with other professionals involved such as attorneys and accountants.

What About A Franchise?

In the event the current inventory of businesses on hand does not meet your needs, another potential consideration might be to investigate franchises available through American Business Connections. There are advantages to purchasing a franchise:

The franchisor has already solved many of the headaches you
would experience in starting your own business with a concept
proven by many franchises across the country.

There will be a definite plan for you to follow with support from
   the franchisors.

You can participate in national advertising that you could not    otherwise afford on a limited individual budget.

American Business Connections has several franchise opportunities available and will arrange for information to be provided for your investigation.

Targeted Business Search

In the event the business of your dreams is not found through the consideration of an existing business or franchise, American Business Connections can assist you by conducting a targeted search in the hidden market for a business best suited to your needs and criteria. Locating a business with very specific criteria may well be compared to someone wanting a 1957 Chevy two-door hard top, with a white top and blue bottom, 4" sidewalls, and in good operating condition. This is likely not to be found advertised in any newspaper or on any used car lot. There is probably at least one in someone's garage, well protected from the elements and dangerous freeways. In order to find it, you will have to search all garages until it is found.

American Business Connections can conduct a professional search for your specific criteria, called a targeted business search for that "just right" opportunity. We will help you crystallize your objectives, explain the process and execute the search.
